If you need a hysterectomy, board-certified gynecologist Dr. Linda Sodoma at Life Care for Women offers high-quality, state-of-the-art care. During a private one-on-one consultation, we will walk you through the process of having a hysterectomy and listen to any concerns you may have. This is a great time to ask as many questions as possible! Whether you need a hysterectomy due to uterine prolapse, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, or something else, we can create a treatment plan that will help you address your issues. During this surgery, we may perform a total hysterectomy, a partial hysterectomy, or a radical hysterectomy (often only used to treat cancer). For more information on hysterectomies or how Dr. Sodoma can help you address your feminine health issues, contact our Gilbert, AZ office to schedule a consultation.

Prior to your hysterectomy, we will meet with you one-on-one so you know exactly what to expect. You'll have one of three hysterectomies:

  • Total hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus and cervix
  • Partial hysterectomy: Removal of the upper part of the uterus
  • Radical hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries (typically only performed to treat cancer)

Your hysterectomy will vary, depending on the type of hysterectomy you're having, but Dr. Sodoma typically uses the da Vinci® robotic surgery, a laparoscopic treatment, as this is usually the most minimally invasive option. The da Vinci method has a variety of advantages, including:

  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Less scarring
  • Fewer complications after surgery
  • Faster recovery time

After your hysterectomy, you can expect to be sore. You'll have some pain for at least a few days and some vaginal bleeding for a few weeks. It's normal to feel constipated after your procedure. If you had a radical hysterectomy, you will begin to notice symptoms of menopause.

Dr. Sodoma is the best! Terrific Dr plus the entire staff - everyone is always helpful, friendly, and attentive. It’s not just routine care, Dr is interested in your health, catching any issues early, and your quality of life.

Dr. Sodoma was my 2nd opinion and now my first choice moving forward. I was disheartened when I first heard of my situation and a patient recommended I see her doctor-Sodoma. My consult with her was 180 degrees from what I was told from the previous doctor. Sodoma took lead on my operation and the other doctors were excited to work with her postop which felt like further validation that I had chosen the right doctor for my care. A 20 year+ situation is now resolved and I have very little scarring. My body is rejuvenated and I can participate in life more fully.

About Us
How do I decide if a robotic hysterectomy procedure is right for me?

Women in the Gilbert, AZ area in need of a hysterectomy are welcome to have an honest and forthright discussion with Dr. Sodoma. During your consultation, she will review every part of the operation — so you comprehend what's involved. Our Life Care For Women team also wants to reassure women that a robotic and laparoscopic procedure with the da Vinci platform typically means faster recovery times and a quicker return to normal and recreational activities.

Are there any downsides to a robotic procedure?

A robotic-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy is a safe procedure but will likely take longer and have a higher risk of injury to the urinary tract than a more traditional abdominal hysterectomy. However, robotic surgery is typically associated with a decreased risk of infection, less pain, and shorter inpatient times.

How long does it take to recover?

Usually, most women are able to recover from a robotic hysterectomy in a few weeks. However, your rehabilitation timeline will depend on a variety of elements, including your underlying physical health and your capacity for postoperative care. Dr. Sodoma and the Life Care For Women team will help you recover as safely and effectively as possible.
