What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing at Life Care for Women is a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that uses pulsating beams of light to eliminate damaged surface skin cells one layer at a time. The treatment is performed to help Chandler, Mesa, and Scottsdale, AZ patients reduce facial wrinkles and lines and diminish skin blemishes, like acne scars, pigmentation, and other flaws. Sometimes referred to as a laser peel, fractional skin resurfacing is considered an effective facial treatment for patients desiring softer, clearer, youthful-looking skin. More so, this treatment utilizing cutting-edge technology, such as Icon™ Aesthetic Systems, Opus Plasma®, and Hybrid™ laser technologies, can be customized to meet your unique needs. How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

Your laser skin resurfacing treatment will vary based on the intensity of your treatment plan. However, we typically start by applying a topical anesthetic to numb your treatment areas. From there, we will utilize either the Icon, Opus, or Hybrid handheld device to perform your laser skin resurfacing.

You can relax in our treatment chair while the laser handpiece glides over the skin. You may feel the heat from the laser, followed by cold air from the built-in cooling system. This destroys dead and damaged skin cells while stimulating natural collagen production.

Afterward, a healing ointment will be smoothed over your skin and you can return home to recover. Your skin may be red, swollen, and irritated. This should subside in a few days, and the skin peeling process will occur over a 3 – 5-day period. If you are undergoing a deeper resurfacing procedure, your downtime will take longer.

You will begin to notice your skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel off. It's important to avoid picking at the skin during the recovery process to keep it from scarring. After the peeling is finished, the treated skin will be softer, clearer, rejuvenated, and more youthful-looking.

About Us
How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?

Your laser skin resurfacing cost will vary based on the treatment you get. During your initial consultation, Dr. Sodoma will listen to your skin issues and goals before discussing the different types of resurfacing. After this, she will help you decide on your resurfacing treatment and talk to you about costs. Life Care For Women regularly offers skin treatment specials and discounted packages, so be sure to ask during your appointment.

What's the best type of resurfacing for me?

Dr. Sodoma will help you decide which laser resurfacing option is best for your concerns and goals in your initial consultation. The best treatment for you will depend on the health of your skin, your skin issues, and how deep you want your treatment to go. How long you are willing to give your recovery might also be a deciding consideration when choosing your treatment type. If you are unsure, it's better to start with a milder treatment then assess your results and adjust as needed for your next treatment.

How can I help my skin recover after a resurfacing treatment?

Dr. Sodoma or a member of her team will explain ways to speed skin healing following your treatment. The most important rule is do not pick or peel your skin. This could lead to long-term damage like scars. You need to skip all hair removal methods on the treated skin, which includes waxing, shaving, or depilatory creams. We can recommend an ointment to help soothe and heal your skin.
