Aging, hormonal changes, diet, and environmental exposure are just a few factors that influence the texture and appearance of the skin. When topical treatments, supplements, and lifestyle changes do very little to help women achieve youthful, glowing skin, laser skin resurfacing may be the next step. At Life Care for Women, Dr. Linda I. Sodoma and her professional team work with patients in Gilbert, AZ and the surrounding areas. Dr. Sodoma understands the unique circumstances that affect a woman’s complexion and how to help her achieve gorgeous, natural-looking results.

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing, otherwise known as a laser peel, is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment used to help individuals achieve softer, younger-looking skin by eradicating superficial, damaged tissue cells. Fractional laser technology that involves pulsating beams of light is applied directly to the skin to remove tissue one layer at a time to reveal new, smoother skin. At Life Care for Women, Dr. Sodoma works with each patient to develop a customized laser skin resurfacing plan based on their skin condition(s) and their personal cosmetic goals.

Benefits of laser skin resurfacing

Patients get to experience numerous benefits from using laser skin resurfacing treatments, including:

  • A highly tailored treatment plan
  • A clear-cut recovery protocol
  • Smoother, glowing skin
  • Natural, youthful results

What skin conditions does laser skin resurfacing treat?

At Life Care for Women, Dr. Sodoma utilizes cutting-edge laser skin resurfacing technology systems, including Opus Plasma®, Hybrid™, and Icon™ Aesthetic Systems, all of which can be custom-set to treat a wide variety of skin conditions, including:

  • Fine line
  • Wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun spots
  • Acne scars
  • Textured or uneven skin

How the treatment process works

All patients come to Life Care for Women for their scheduled laser skin resurfacing appointment. Each treatment site is numbed with a topical cream to reduce discomfort during the session. The device applicator is carefully glided over each treatment site. Most patients feel the heat from the laser energy, followed by a cooling sensation from the built-in temperature regulation system. Once your session is complete, you are free to return home or resume normal daily activities.

What will my recovery look like?

Each patient is sent home with aftercare instructions to promote healing and optimize their laser skin resurfacing results. Typically, patients may experience temporary swelling, redness, and tenderness at each treatment site, which should subside within a few days. After approximately one week, the skin will start to crust or flake, paving the way for new skin to surface while dramatically improving the complexion. Patients who’ve participated in a deeper laser skin resurfacing treatment may require a longer recovery period.

Dr. Sodoma may recommend patients adhere to the following recovery tips at home:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning beds
  • Avoid picking at or rubbing crusting skin
  • Apply recommended moisturizers
  • Avoid facial massages and exfoliants

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The number of laser skin resurfacing treatments needed will depend on each patient’s personal goals and Dr. Sodoma’s professional recommendations. While some laser skin resurfacing treatments can go relatively deep into the tissue, some skin conditions should be treated over the course of several sessions spaced a few weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Consult with Dr. Sodoma about what to expect for your laser skin resurfacing treatment schedule.
